Situated in the heart
of the historic
Bastille area (rue de Charonne in the
11th arrondisment), our spacious apartment sits inside a beautiful
17th century courtyard.
Very close to several handy metro lines, with a
vast array of cafes, bars and restaurants just a casual stroll away,
our central Paris location really has it all.
A little about our building and courtyard —
Built in the 17th century as a nunnery, by the
end of the 19th century it had become a marbleworks. In the 1970's
it was the coolest courtyard in the quarter, with artists moving
in, doing their thing, and turning the workshop spaces into apartments.
Today most of the courtyard apartments are privately
owned and a close community within a community has grown. Unusual
to Paris, where most neighbors are polite but rarely socialize together,
everyone pretty well knows everyone else, never hesitating to borrow
some milk or take the time to have a coffee together in the courtyard.
In spring the courtyard explodes into green and
an array of flowers. One whole wall supports the ancient grapevines,
which over the course of summer bears a grape that is used to make
the 'vin de Paris' in September, also giving cause to our fun 'harvest
festival' party in the yard.
Enjoy your tour of our apartment and hopefully
your stay...
